A top roof

Lucy In the Sky is the latest trendy bar everyone is talking about. Designed and built by architect Yachar Bouhaya, it’s also the newest creation from the Cabestan group. Located in the heart of CFC, the venue offers a 360° view of the economic capital. Whether day or night, the panorama is truly stunning! We also loved the décor. It’s a beautiful blend of various quality materials. Modern zellige walls are paired with wood, cement tiles, and marble for a result that is both elegant and comfortable.

But the highlight of the place is its access. A panoramic elevator takes you up to the rooftop terrace, and for that alone, it’s a new spot in Casa that’s worth trying! Porada opens a showroom

You might already be familiar with the creations of the Italian brand Porada. Well, the brand now has a full showroom, and it’s THE new thing in Casa’s décor scene. You can discover their collections in the Palmier district, over nearly 1,000 square meters. From small furniture, poufs, and side tables to living rooms, desks, beds, and dining tables. Known for its artisanal woodwork and the high-quality pieces crafted in collaboration with international designers, Porada symbolizes a certain art of living. The showroom’s park? The staging of a “Porada house” with more than 20 different settings. It’s a a must-see for inspiration. You absolutely must pay it a visit!

Leila Hadioui has moved!

But not far, as she’s still on the first floor of the Morocco Mall. Leila Hadioui has indeed moved to a new space, just a few meters from her old boutique. You won’t have any trouble finding it to shop for her creations. The actress, TV host, and fashion designer has imagined a new setting for her collections, and it’s really nice! Light plays a major role, and the attention to decorative details reminds us how meticulous the designer is.

You will of course find collections of timeless pieces such as gandouras, djellabas, and other capes, as well as her capsule collections. Stay tuned, as she’s currently preparing her next fashion show. It will take place in Casablanca on December 12th.

An open-air mall

One of the key pieces of news in recent weeks is the opening of Mall du Carrousel in Rabat. Spanning 30,000 square meters facing the Atlantic Ocean, it’s unquestionably the largest open-air shopping space in the region. Dedicated to shopping, the venue also offers entertainment spaces, children’s play areas, and dining options, with the major advantage of being surrounded by more than 7,000 square meters of green spaces. A real green haven, where you can stroll, sit under a tree to snack or relax. It further solidifies, if there was any doubt, the eco-friendly reputation of the capital.

The venue features about a hundred brands, covering everything from fashion to home décor. It also includes a multiplex cinema by Cinerji (a new entertainment and leisure concept in Africa) with around 2,000 seats. Several play areas for kids, including a Royal Kids park, are ideal for planning a birthday party or just a fun afternoon for your little ones. And, of course, the mall has numerous restaurants, from fast food to gourmet bistros. Everything for a pleasant family outing!

Salt and Pepper, for a Healthy Lunch

Located in the heart of  Bourgogne, Salt & Pepper is one of the new restaurants in Casablanca that you must try if you’re looking for healthy options. Open from 12pm to 7pm, the restaurant serves delicious and balanced cuisine. Contemporary ambience, relaxed atmosphere,  and attention to detail characterize this spot.. The tableware, for example, is custom  and handmade, just like the small embroidered napkins that bear inspiring messages. The concept was conceived by a young woman, Samia Benkiran, a trained nutritionist and passionate cook. Whether it’s lunchtime during the week or brunch on Sundays, Salt & Pepper is an ideal stop.

For what to order,  the “Petit Bistro” menu is served at the table from 12pm to 3pm, while the “Snacking” menu is available throughout the day. Those with a sweet tooth will easily be tempted by the cheesecakes, banana breads, or lemon brownies. The tarfernout burger, breaded crab cakes, and numerous salads will satisfy savory cravings. Local and seasonal products, combined with balanced and inventive pairings, are the main ingredients at  Salt & Pepper.

La Bavaroise, for a Bistronomic Lunch or Dinner

Located opposite the central market  downtown, Brasserie La Bavaroise is a true institution among restaurants in Casablanca. Annabel’s, for a 1930s-style Evening Kickoff

Just a stone’s throw from the Sacré-Cœur Church, Annabel’s has taken over an Art Deco building to pay tribute to one of the most beautiful architectural periods of the economic capital. Ruby Supper Club, for a Trendy Afterwork

Opened on April 18th, Ruby is the new hot spot in Casa. In a cozy setting, adorned entirely in red, it is only accessible by reservation. DJs, singers, and pianists take turns entertaining guests, inviting them to sing and dance to upbeat tunes. For example, Victor Le Douarec sets the stage on fire with French variety songs, while Ignace De Souza pumps up the dance floor with more electro-pop sounds.

In the kitchen, the recipes are inspired by Japanese cuisine. They elevate many ocean products and serve them with a certain aesthetic flair. The cocktail list is also sure to please, complemented by a lovely wine cellar. Ruby is not only one of the new restaurants in Casablanca worth trying but also a great place to meet new people!

Le Mano, for Dancing the Night Away

Located within the new La Promenade complex, which will eventually host a sports bar, The Garrison, and a restaurant, Momo’z Garden, the new nightclub Mano has opened its doors. In soft opening since May 2nd, this new dance floor promises to bring some electronic freshness to the city. Designed to become a new gathering spot for Moroccan and international DJs, Mano Club aims to reconnect  Casablancans  with the nightlife scene. For the official opening night, Arymé and Rockin Moroccin took over the turntables and had the guests dancing until the early hours of the morning!

One of the most highly anticipated new locations in Paris is Le Gainsbarre. That’s the name of the cafe/piano bar that has just opened its doors, simultaneously with Maison Gainsbourg (the artist’s former home turned into a museum). Located right across from 5 bis rue de Verneuil, this hybrid venue transports us into this icon’s world: a cozy atmosphere, thick carpeting, dark velvet armchairs, and portraits of the artist himself hanging on the walls…

The menu, crafted by the Paris Society group (known for its exceptional restaurants like Monsieur Bleu, Mun, Raspoutine), aims to be simple and unpretentious. For lunch, you can try the truffle croque-monsieur, Cadoret oysters, or lobster rolls. As night falls, the place turns into a piano bar where you can enjoy cocktails and drinks accompanied by jazz music…

Noter : If you plan to visit Maison Gainsbourg, be aware that tickets are sold out until the end of the year. Offering an immersion into the artist’s universe (original manuscripts, vintage portraits), Le Gainsbarre is a good compromise to hold you over.

La Brasserie des Prés

This brasserie, hidden in the Cour du Commerce Saint-André, right in the heart of Saint-Germain des Prés, is one of the most buzz-worthy places in Paris at the moment… After Brasserie Dubillot, Bellanger, and Martin, this is the 4th Parisian location of La Nouvelle Garde, a group of entrepreneurs passionate about regional cuisine and good food. This restaurant, in the Art Nouveau style, spans three floors and features a courtyard terrace as well.

The menu offers classic bistro cuisine: deviled eggs, leeks in vinaigrette, snails with garlic and parsley butter, and more. Main courses include flank steak of beef from Salers, BBQ lamb to share, and much more… As you can tell, at La Brasserie des Prés, you eat well and at an affordable price. Everything is homemade with fresh, local, and seasonally sourced ingredients directly from producers.

La Fantaisie

After three years of renovation, this hotel located in the bustling Faubourg Montmartre district finally opened its doors in the fall of 2023. Behind the understated facade on Rue Cadet, this 5-star hotel takes us to a small bucolic, colorful, and verdant paradise. In addition to its 73 rooms and suites, you’ll find a rooftop, a restaurant (Golden Poppy), and a courtyard garden where you can sit down for a meal or a drink.

The interior design is by Martin Brudnizki, a renowned Swedish designer. The restaurant menu was curated by Dominique Crenn (the only chef in the United States with three Michelin stars), who showcases Californian cuisine. You’ll find dishes as surprising as they are inventive, such as Poutargue flan, abalone tacos, or crispy rice with “tiger’s milk” ceviche. In short, if you want to treat your taste buds to a journey, you know where to go!

On the 7th floor, the Rooftop Bar has more surprises in store for you. In a retro, chic, and intimate setting, you can enjoy delicious signature cocktails like the Japanese Connection (with Kombu-infused gin) or the Mule & The Tiger (made with vodka, “tiger’s milk” ceviche, and ginger).

Rivayat   

After his successful stint in London, where he swiftly earned a Michelin star for Jamavar, Rohit Ghai has now set his sights on Marrakech. But not just anywhere—his prestigious Indian cuisine has found a home in the kitchens of Oberoi. For the hotel group that shares his nationality, he has crafted the menu for Rivayat, a brand-new restaurant that opened its doors on September 1st.

For this latest venture, the chef has conceived a menu inspired by Indian gastronomy, featuring dishes from various regions that he has carefully reimagined. From coconut and sesame masala shrimp to tandoori salmon with raita and pickles, butter chicken, and Atlantic lobster with curry leaves, tomatoes, and mustard—a real culinary journey.

L’Abri

In case somehow you missed it, here’s a spot that’s already made its mark since its opening in Casablanca earlier this year. Located in an old house on Boulevard Bir Anzarane, the owners of Cézanne and the former Bazaar have introduced their latest concept. It’s the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle, just steps from downtown and not far from the Corniche. Whether you choose to dine on the terrace, in the “winter garden,” or in the wooden-toned interior, the setting is suitable for a business lunch, a late lunch with friends, or a romantic dinner.

The menu is simple, with fresh ingredients, and everything is made from scratch. In the kitchen, the French-Swedish executive chef is busy offering Mediterranean dishes with a twist. Think lychee ceviche, pineapple iced tataki, slow-cooked chuck steak, crusted lamb, red mullet bouillabaisse, and salmon ravioli… Just talking about it is making our mouths water.

Glaz 

“Glaz”… does that ring a bell? Probably not. This typically Breton expression refers to the palette of blues and greens that the sea can take on. This same color scheme can be found in the decor of the establishment that has just opened in the Racine district of Casablanca. Chef Meriem Tahiri, known for her role on Master Chef Morocco, created the recipes. On the menu: melon gazpacho with fresh mint, served with shrimp and chorizo; Caesar salad with buckwheat chips; rib-eye steak with shallots; tartare with matchstick potatoes; salmon steak with seaweed-flavored white butter from Nantes; and scallops with cream corn and English mustard…

In addition to the classic menu, you can also savor fusion pancakes that break free from traditional recipes. Goat cheese, tomato, country ham, and pesto pancakes; pancakes with truffle mashed potatoes accompanied by chicken ballotine with porcini mushrooms; and leek-salmon fondue with pickled beets and beet ice cream… The flavors of Brittany will win you over.

Anzar 

Opened in July, Cabaret Anzar brings a breath of fresh air to the Tangier nightlife. Located in the heart of the Marina, this establishment was designed by architect Othmane Lazraq, and we absolutely love it. Curved red velvet booths, enveloping alcoves, columns adorned with golden leaves, and sensual vaults ceilings… The interior design is a true invitation to indulge the senses. In the kitchen, it’s all about Moroccan cuisine. Classic dishes (chakchouka, chicken and almond briouats, Moroccan-style beef liver, raisin mrouzia, Tangier langoustines with chermoula) are beautifully executed.

And then there are the more unique offerings: mini chicken and amlou pastilla, osso buco of veal with prunes and almonds, chicken supreme with argan oil… On stage, several artists (dancers, singers) take turns every night offering performances in the spirit of oriental cabarets. It’s the perfect place for dinner and to get caught up in the festivities until the early hours of the morning.

Pétanque Social Club

Who said pétanque was old-fashioned? Certainly not us. And much to our delight, one of the iconic pétanque clubs in the ochre city has been revived. This new venue is the brainchild of the owner of Café des Épices and Nomad. We haven’t had the chance to try it out yet, but we’ve heard nothing but good things. In the heart of Guéliz, a spacious garden awaits where you can sip cocktails and nibble on tapas as night falls.

Alternatively, you may prefer to dine in one of the many rooms in this tastefully decorated house that showcases antique furniture and contemporary art. It’s a definite must-visit on our next trip to Marrakech to discover the Mediterranean-flavored menu and, perhaps, have a game of pétanque.

Take some time to wander around the Kasbah. You’ll come across the boutique of the antique dealer and designer Adolfo de Velasco, a prominent figure in Tangier from the 1960s until his death in 2004, where you’ll find a selection of clothing and decorative art. Finally, take a moment to sip tea on the terrace of the Salon Bleu. The view is worth it.

It’s definitely a recurring meeting between the editorial team and you, dear readers. In 2021, Shoelifer already gave you its favorite summer spots in Tamouda Bay, episodes 1 and 2. This year, because it’s a summer when we can finally let loose (after three post-COVID years that were a bit tedious), we’re in an epicurean mood. Beach parties, bohemian vibes, great food, and all-night parties (a shout-out to Lionel Ricci, if you’re reading this)… In short, we want beauty, happiness, and fun. Here are our five gems that will make your summer!

Three for the price of one at the Sofitel Tamouda Bay Beach & Spa

Let’s be clear, Sofitel Tamouda Bay Beach & Spa wanted to spoil us in the summer  of 2023. Since July 1st, the very refreshing Organic Kitchen, based in Casablanca, has set up shop at the hotel for an original collaboration with the LOV restaurant. The idea? A culinary pop-up that combines Mediterranean cuisine and botanical mixology, open from 6 pm to 2 am — all l to the sound of a funky and groovy live band. That’s more than enough to put us in a good mood! Special mention to the lavender mojito.

Another renowned Casablanca establishment has set up shop at Sofitel Tamouda Bay Beach & Spa. It’s Milos, a restaurant dedicated to the delights of Greek gastronomy, which has gone big. It’s four universes in one place, condensed into a chill and cozy boho-Berber setting. The beach club (12 pm to 2 am), the restaurant (12 pm to 2 am), the dinner-show room (starting at 11 pm), and the nightclub (2 am to 5 am). All punctuated with events throughout the week: DJ sets, mystical and spiritual experiences… It’s tempting, isn’t it?

Last but not least, our little favorite, Iloli, relocates its sushi delivery service, Iloli To Go, to Sofitel Tamouda Bay Beach & Spa starting on July 15th. Sorry, Casablanca folks, but if you intend to savor the most refined sushi in the kingdom, you’ll have to head north. Iloli To Go can be enjoyed on-site or taken away, much to the delight of our taste buds. Our favorite Japanese restaurant offers two shifts: from noon to 6 pm and from 8 pm to midnight. On the menu: starters, salads, sushi, and desserts. You’ll find it at the La Voile Bleue restaurant’s beach bar, with its fabulous sea view.

Spasso Kabila Beach 

There’s something new at the legendary Kabila beach bar. This year, it’s Spasso, managed by Hicham Alami, who has taken over this institution for the summer of 2023. For the occasion, the venue has had a makeover: a new look, several extensions, 40 sunbeds, a deck (terrace) covering the entire width of the establishment. And high-quality sound ambiance. For the rest, Spasso aims to stay true to the tradition of the Spanish beach bar. On the menu, our favorite tapas (garlic prawns, tortillas, puntitas, or calamari fritters). But also a “to die for” paella, according to Hicham Alami, and a “very nice cocktail menu.” The next big thing in Tamouda Bay? Probably.

Baba Beach

As the name suggests, this beach bar with its feet in the water has a bohemian and tropical atmosphere. At its helm, we find the teams from Tangerino (two Rabat and Tangier essentials) and one of the executive chefs who took over the kitchens this year. The gastronomic influences? The Mediterranean and the Iberian Peninsula, of course, with taste but without pretension. The highlight? Local fish cooked over an open flame. After midnight, the lounge restaurant turns into a nightclub, with international artists on weekends, for an almost Burning Man atmosphere. Magical nights ahead in Tamouda Bay!

Fluka Cabo Negro 

The most Frenchy of Tamouda Bay restaurants has undergone a transformation. For the summer of 2023, Fluka offers a “new brasserie” concept, executed by chef Thierry, originally from Belgium. On the menu? Treats from the land and sea (meat lovers will be delighted). Specifically? How about royal Dorado ceviche, veal chop in parmesan crust, and beef/lobster burger? That’s more than enough for a feast. If you’re not in a food coma, you can roll yourself over to the lounge area. All evenings will be serenaded by a live band from Paris (formerly from Les Trois Mailletz). Guaranteed piano-bar/cabaret ambiance in Tamouda Bay!

Buddha-Bar Beach & Rooftop Tamouda Bay at Banyan Tree

The famous Buddha Bar is setting up at the Banyan Tree Tamouda Bay. On the program: two rooms, two atmospheres. Buddha Bar Beach, based at the beach bar, will be open from noon to 9 pm. Its motto? Fresh seafood, cuisine with Japanese and Thai inspirations, with a touch of the Occident. And cocktails (classic or ultra-sophisticated) concocted by dedicated mixologists.

From 9 pm to 1 am, customers can join the Buddha Bar Rooftop, under the starry sky of the Moroccan Riviera, to the rhythm of lounge music created by Buddha Bar, of course. And for night owls, the B Tree, the nightclub of the luxurious hotel, offers nightlife where techno music will be in the spotlight until the early hours of the morning.

The Most Urban: Miami Beach Club

In Casablanca, the Miami Beach Club is an institution to discover or rediscover. What do we like about it? Its large seawater pool, protected from the tumultuous ocean by a dike, making it ultra-safe and more eco-friendly than a freshwater pool. We also love its family-friendly, welcoming, and simple atmosphere, with several pools designed for children. A little surprise bonus: the natural swimming lane, carved into the rocks, where you can jump without thinking twice with the help of a rope. A well-kept secret that will allow you to get to know some of the wonderful local regulars. This is certainly the most surprising private beach in Casablanca.

The Most Iconic: Tahiti Beach Club

The Tahiti Beach Club is one of the private beaches in Casablanca that has welcomed several generations of Casaouis over the decades. Since 1952, this establishment, nestled along the Corniche, has embodied the perfect chill atmosphere in Casablanca. Treated seawater pools, leather lounge chairs, chic restaurants, and private beach access… A sunny stop in the heart of the city to instantly feel like you’re on vacation. The club’s restaurants (La Terrazza and La Paillote) are open non-stop from 12 pm to 11 pm. Above all, take the opportunity to go down to the beach and its small private cove with sun loungers set up on the sand at low tide. And don’t forget to play in the waves, a pleasure that never gets old.

The Most Stylish: Scara’Bay

Scara’Bay is the huge private beach that opened its doors in 2019 in Tamaris. Remember, Shoelifer has already checked it out, and honestly, we were thrilled. Chic and minimalist decor reminiscent of the trendy beaches of Tulum, pristine beds, beach access, large pool, and festive atmosphere… All on 5000 m2, making it one of the largest private beaches in Casablanca. Bar, cocktails, musical ambiance throughout the day, we appreciate the tropical and Latino vibes. Undoubtedly one of the most exotic private beaches in Casablanca and its surrounding areas.

The Must-Visit: Les 3 Mâts chez Joe

A well-known destination for “darbistes” to explore to their hearts’ content  this summer. Why? Because Les 3 Mâts is essentially the pioneer of private beaches in Casablanca. Beds right on the sand, beach huts, a shaded dining area, friendly atmosphere, and unpretentious cuisine… For a long time, it has brought together all the ingredients for a carefree seaside getaway under the Dar Bouazza sun.

The Most Secret: Eden Island

This is the most discreet gem of our selection. Eden Island is the ideal alternative for Casaouis looking for a quieter option away from the hustle and bustle of private beaches in Casablanca. Head to Oued Cherrat, near Bouznika, to settle on top of a hill of golden sand, like an escape to Robinson Crusoe’s island. Well, almost… Because on nearly 3000 m2, you’ll discover a pool, plenty of sun loungers, and a food court with casual dining options overlooking an almost untouched beach. On the menu (for lunch or evening drinks): French fries cones for the little ones, tapas with a chiringuito spirit, or healthy salads à la carte. All to be savored while enjoying the sea view.

Villa Mabrouka

Ever dreamt of staying at Yves Saint Laurent’s place? Well, starting from June 21, you can make that dream come true. The former residence of the YSL-Pierre Bergé couple will open its doors as a luxury guesthouse. Acquired in the 90s by this legendary duo, it was recently sold to British designer Jasper Conran. He has diligently renovated and decorated Villa Mabrouka, skillfully blending Moroccan craftsmanship with touches of contemporary design. Today, the Villa Mabrouka boasts 12 suites that combine comfort and refinement. If you’re not staying there, you can still have lunch at their restaurant or enjoy a drink on their rooftop, which offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean.

Le Kiosk

The Think Tanger agency, founded by cultural entrepreneurs Hicham Bouzid and Amina Mourid, has set up its new showcase (and offices) on Omar Bin Alhass Street. Does that ring a bell? It should, as it’s a well-known street in Tangier, home to the Les Insolites bookstore, artists’ workshops, and one of the most popular antique shops in the city. The Kiosk aims to become a vibrant space where anyone can learn about the city of Tangier (like a real kiosk) and participate in its hotbed of culture. The premises are still a work in progress, but don’t hesitate to stop by. Two events are already scheduled: the launch of the second issue of the Makan magazine on July 22, and a solidarity market on Sunday, August 6.

Maison Citron

In the heart of the Kasbah, in a former Portuguese colonial-style house, illustrator Myriam au Citron and her sister are opening a pastry shop and tea salon. The concept? A friendly place where you can indulge in homemade French pastries, artisanal ice cream, hot drinks, or fresh fruit juice. You can spend the whole day there, enjoying the colorful (yellow, pink, green) and ultra-graphic environment, which blends Myriam’s illustrations with the aesthetics of Wes Anderson’s films. The locations will be announced soon on the artist’s Instagram account. Stay tuned!

Villa Augustine

Villa Augustine, an intimate 5-room guesthouse with a panoramic view of the city and the strait, truly makes us want to visit Tangier. We’re completely charmed by the decoration (orchestrated by self-taught interior decorator Willem Smith, also responsible for Riad Augustine in Marrakech), which prominently features works by contemporary Moroccan artists like Leila Alaoui or M’barek Bouhchichi, as well as designer furniture. Note that the restaurant is exclusively reserved for guests, so you’ll have to book a night (or more) if you want to enjoy the experience.

La Muralla

Little is known about this newly opened establishment in Tangier. All we know is that it’s located in the heart of the Kasbah and offers a superb view of Tangier’s rooftops through the cracks in the city’s walls. Recommended by insiders, we haven’t had the chance to visit yet. If you happen to go, please share your feedback with us. Here’s the address.
