After R. Kelly, it is now P. Diddy, another global star of the hip-hop and R&B scene, who is in the crosshairs of American justice. While awaiting his trial, P. Diddy (formerly Puff Daddy) has been placed in a federal prison in Brooklyn. In recent days, “the P. Diddy case” has taken on an expansive international dimension, to the point of being compared to the Jeffrey Epstein case, generating a #MeToo movement within the American hip-hop industry.

The Man Who Could Do No Wrong

So who is P. Diddy? Shoelifer mentioned this earlier. He is one of the most significant rappers and producers of the 20th century, with his peak occurring between the 1990s and 2010. In 1993, he founded Bad Boy Records in New York, which produced the greatest East Coast rappers, including the legendary Notorious B.I.G., pioneering Lil’ Kim, and also NAS and Jay Z.

At that time, P. Diddy was already a controversial figure and likely one of the instigators of the rivalry between Notorious B.I.G. (East Coast) and Tupac Shakur (West Coast), which led to both of their assassinations between 1996 and 1997, under still murky circumstances today. P. Diddy capitalized heavily on the sudden death of his “best friend” Notorious B.I.G. through storytelling, re-releases of albums, and compilations of previously unreleased tracks. This also inspired two of his biggest hits: “I’ll Be Missing You” (featuring Faith Evans, Notorious’s widow) and “Nasty Girl” (with a host of hip-hop stars).

In New York, he became a key player in the music industry, producing for artists such as Mary J. Blige, Usher, R. Kelly, Mariah Carey, TLC, Ice Cube, and Mario Winans (the list goes on). He even had a romance with Jennifer Lopez, whom he transformed into J-Lo, until their relationship abruptly ended when P. Diddy was implicated in a shooting and a corruption case in 1999.

Diddy embodies the bling-bling lifestyle and is a shrewd businessman, with his fortune estimated at $747 million by Forbes in 2019. He turns everything he touches into gold: the Sean John clothing line, Ciroc vodka brand… all while continuing to dominate the charts with global hits like “Last Night” featuring Keyshia Cole (2006) and “Coming Home” (2010).

He is also the one who launched Justin Bieber’s career. In short, P. Diddy is an influential man who has managed to cultivate an image of a respectable family man (with seven children) and a great philanthropist over time. He also represents African American success, politically engaged and close to the American Democrats, much like Beyoncé.

Cassie and the Domino Effect

But how did the aura and status of this seemingly untouchable man shatter? To understand this, we must go back to November 16, 2023. On that day, model and singer Cassandra Ventura (known as Cassie), who was P. Diddy’s partner for 13 years (from 2005 to 2018), filed a lawsuit against him for “rape,” “violence,” and “sex trafficking.”

Cassie informed authorities that P. Diddy had allegedly forced her for several years to have sex with sex workers, filmed and under chemical submission (alcohol, drugs…). She claims to have been a victim of domestic violence and rape committed by P. Diddy in 2018, the year of their separation. She also revealed the existence of Freak Offs, orgy parties organized by P. Diddy, who is well known for his “party spirit” and “white parties.”

However, on November 17, just twenty-four hours after her hearing, Cassie withdrew her lawsuit following a confidential financial agreement with the accused. In other words, P. Diddy bought her silence. Nevertheless, events began to unfold.

On November 23, 2023, the day the Adult Survivor Act (a New York law allowing victims of sexual violence to file lawsuits for time-barred incidents) closed, two separate lawsuits were filed against P. Diddy for incidents dating back to the 1990s. The first was from Liza Gardner, who claims she was raped and assaulted at the age of 16 by the producer and singer Aaron Hall. The second plaintiff, Joie Dickerson-Neal, reported being drugged without her knowledge before being sexually assaulted and filmed.

On December 2, 2023, another woman filed a lawsuit against P. Diddy under anonymity. According to her, the musician and two accomplices allegedly kidnapped her in 2003 when she was only 17 years old, before drugging and abusing her in P. Diddy’s recording studio.

On February 2, 2024, Rodney Lil’ Rod (P. Diddy’s producer on the album Love) accused the rapper of drugging, assaulting, and filming him. Rodney even claims to have hundreds of hours of recordings of parties involving sexual exploitation (also involving minors) and chemical submission. In other words, he describes an unprecedented and established predation system. He also implicates two label executives, Lucian Grainge (Universal Music) and Ethiopia Habtemariam (Motortown).

Between May and September 2024, five more lawsuits were filed against P. Diddy. All describe incidents of sexual assault, rape, or abuse.

Federal Intervention and Shocking Revelations from CNN

In March 2024, the case took a new turn. On March 25, investigators from the Department of Homeland Security (the Feds) dramatically searched two of P. Diddy’s residences in Los Angeles and Miami.

Agents seized a thousand bottles of “lubricant” (actually baby sweet almond oil) and other evidence confirming the existence of sexual orgies (the famous Freak Offs). Investigators reportedly also found numerous sex tapes, but no information has leaked since. Meanwhile, P. Diddy denies all accusations against him. He even took the time to post a video on his Instagram account, suggesting that he is now alone against everyone.

In May, a new incriminating piece of evidence emerged against the “star.” CNN aired an unbearably violent clip recorded in 2016 by a hotel surveillance camera, showing P. Diddy hitting and dragging his then-girlfriend, Cassie, by the hair. In one video, he acknowledges the facts and calls his behavior “inexcusable.” He then committed to going to New York to cooperate with justice and “answer all questions.”

But nothing can close the Pandora’s box. Lawsuits against him continue to accumulate. On September 16, P. Diddy was arrested and placed in pretrial detention in New York. Following this, Tony Buzbee, the plaintiffs’ attorney, opened a hotline. A total of 3,285 people called, often anonymously, claiming to be victims or witnesses of sexual assault committed by P. Diddy. This led to the identification of 120 new victims, including 25 minors at the time of the incidents. Nearly a hundred lawsuits are likely to stand in court. This is simply unprecedented.

The federal prosecutor’s office in Manhattan currently accuses the rapper of sex trafficking and extortion. The indictment states that P. Diddy “abused, threatened, and coerced women to satisfy his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his actions for decades.”

What About the Tip of the Iceberg?

That summarizes the facts (and only the facts) of the P. Diddy case. This case has not yet revealed all its secrets and is expected to lead to a trial (hoping the accused remains alive, cf. Jeffrey Epstein). Initially, it raises numerous questions about the violence and toxicity of industries related to “entertainment.” Whether in music (P. Diddy, but also R. Kelly, Michael Jackson, or Britney Spears), film (Harvey Weinstein, Judith Godrèche’s story, Gérard Depardieu), or fashion (the Élite affair). It also touches on the impunity of powerful men, the extent of systemic sexual violence, and the consideration of women’s and minors’ voices.

But the P.Diddy case goes even further. This is why the media and public opinion describe it as “tentacled” and compare it to that of Jeffrey Epstein. The latter also set up a system of sexual predation and, according to his little “black book,” had at least 200 contacts of very influential personalities, more or less close to him, ranging from Bill Clinton to Rihanna. For the justice system, the whole question has been whether Epstein was a sexual predator with a few accomplices or if it was a vast network organized by powerful people. The same question arises for P.Diddy, which inevitably feeds the wildest conspiracy theories.

First of all, many stars have collaborated or mingled with P.Diddy, notably during his Freak Offs. Several personalities are thus mentioned in the case, seemingly against their will: Prince Harry, Barack Obama, Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, and Beyoncé, for example. Finally, as with every scandal of this nature, internet users have taken on the role of investigators, scrutinizing every video, photo, interview, or past event in light of current events.

Thus, we find ourselves with theories suggesting that Tupac and Aaliyah (already a victim of R.Kelly) were actually killed by P.Diddy (in Tupac’s case, that’s up for debate LOL). Or that Justin Bieber’s depression and addictions prove he was assaulted by the producer. Internet users are digging up, for example, footage where Justin Bieber seems genuinely uncomfortable in the presence of P.Diddy. Another rumor (spread on TikTok) also reports a list provided by P.Diddy to the FBI mentioning stars complicit in these crimes. Again, this fake news has been denied by lawyer Tony Buzbee.

The stars themselves fuel acute conspiracy thinking. This is particularly the case with rapper 50 Cent, who has been denouncing P.Diddy for years and is now targeting Jay Z, who he claims will be the next to fall.

On September 6, Amazon removed from its site the fake memoirs of P.Diddy’s late ex-wife, Kim Porter, who died in November 2018. Titled Kim’s Lost Words, the book written by a fraudster became a bestseller in a few days. Inside, many passages detail the rapper’s very sordid lifestyle (sexual orgies, drugs) and describe sexual relations with minors, including a “young singer.”

Kim Porter was P.Diddy’s wife from 1994 to 2007 and gave him three children. Many rumors attribute her death to the rapper, claiming he killed her under the pretext that she was about to reveal the truth about his actions. However, according to an autopsy, she died from pneumonia. P.Diddy’s own children have denied these allegations, and the rapper has never missed an opportunity to pay tribute to Kim Porter (even if that doesn’t mean much).

In any case, it is not up to Shoelifer to bring judicial truth. However, if P.Diddy had not been able to act with impunity for so many years, no one would be tempted to believe in a vast conspiracy of Hollywood elites.
