Derby Girl

After loafers and then Mary Janes, it’s now time for  derbies to make their grand comeback. A true hit for the shoes of 2024, this basic style boasts several advantages: unisex, timeless, comfortable, and, most importantly, it goes with everything. For a bit of history, derbies were created in the 19th century by Sir Edward Smith Stanley, the 14th Earl of Derby. They were borrowed from the male wardrobe to replace the closed-lacing Richelieu shoes, which could constrict the feet. We spotted them on the runways at Fashion Week with Max Mara, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Maison Margiela, and more.  It’s the Church’s  model from Miu Miu, in slightly shiny black leather, that captivated us the most (€1,050). The brand also released a second elegant bi-colored edition (camel and cream).

Frog Thigh Highs

Among the shoes for 2024, here’s the editorial team’s crush: thigh-highs (yes, we know ) but in green leather or suede. Thanks to the series Emily in Paris, this trend is decidedly Brat Girl-approved. As you probably already know, green (in all its shades: green-brown, apple green, khaki) is the star color of the fashion trends for 2024-2025. It’s both chic and bold, everything we love. And no, you won’t look like Fantomas. In suede from Sézane, olive green leather from Ferragamo, crocodile-embossed from Paris Texas, or python-embossed from Michael Kors. Whatever the variation, they’re all winners!

Sexy Leo

A little darling of shoes for 2024, leopard print comes in all styles. Whether it’s ankle boots, heels, flats, mules, or even derbies, from Dior to Isabel Marant and Marni, nearly everyone has succumbed to this fancy worthy of the best looks of Fran Fine in the cult series The Nanny. And we couldn’t be happier. To stay chic while making a statement, we prefer the Brandi leopard print loafers from Aquazzura (€750) or the Blade Bootie 65 ankle boots (€895).

On the Road Again

Has the spirit of Lorenzo Lamas (the hero of the series Renegade) loomed large  over the shoe trends for 2024? It seems so, as Hermès, Loewe, and Miu Miu have all succumbed to biker boots. Honestly, it’s not the editorial team’s favorite model, a bit too loose for our taste. It can quickly veer into a wandering minstrel look from the Middle Ages (Jacquouille la Fripouille, these are for you…).

At the editorial team, we prefer the Hermès version: rigid leather (more elegant) in a cherry (or burgundy) color that’s simply stunning.

When it comes to fashion, it’s time to dive into the fall 2024 trend. Already, you ask? Yes, indeed. Meteorologically speaking, fall started on September 1st, and the equinox took place on September 22nd. Sure, with our  Moroccan weather it still feels  like summer, but the days are getting shorter, school is back in session, and some store windows are already preparing for Halloween. Christmas will follow, along with the annual reappearance of Mariah Carey. Time flies, and so does fashion, as fall 2024 is already bidding farewell to the 2000s (Y2K) in favor of more chic and refined influences.

This fall 2024, the trend leans towards “old money,” quiet luxury, and “very demure”—the latest buzzwords among Millennials and Gen Z. In other words, think timeless classics, elegance with a hint of extravagance, or a boho-chic vibe. Luckily, there’s no need to overhaul your wardrobe or max out your credit card.  Here’s our mood board-inspired selection based on the influences of major fashion houses (runway shows and social media) and the search engine, Stylight.

The Cardigan

Unbelievable but true, the cardigan is THE standout piece of the Fall 2024 trend. It’s hard to get more classic than this—you might even consider borrowing one from your grandmother. To give it a preppy twist, choose one that’s form-fitting or slightly oversized, in white and cable-knit.

The Suede Jacket

This season, we’re embracing the western allure or the indie sleaze aesthetic with suede jackets and overshirts. Short or long, trench or bomber style, studded or fringed, in shades of camel, khaki, or plum—everything is blessed by the gods and goddesses of fashion. Suede can also extend to pants or handbags.

Baggy Jeans

Although fall 2024 is saying goodbye to Y2K, the style lingers a little longer with the return of baggy jeans—the staple of 2000s R&B singers. After mom jeans, flares, and cargos, it’s time for baggy jeans. Comfy and laid-back, pair them with a frilly collar (for example) and heels or Mary Jane flats (though the author of these lines has sworn off ballet flats for good).

Boho-Chic

The boho-chic aesthetic of the seventies is making a comeback this Fall 2024, largely thanks to Chemena Kamali, the new artistic director at the prestigious house of Chloé. Hailing from Düsseldorf, Germany, Kamali grew up inspired by the muses of the 1970s: Jane Birkin, Charlotte Rampling, Lauren Hutton, and Jerry Hall.

So what does 2024 boho-chic look like? Think long dresses or skirts, flared pants, flowy fabrics, lace, transparency, psychedelic prints, and nude colors, along with ruffled blouses, exaggerated collars, shoulder pads, puffed sleeves, and baroque frills. Top it off with a long, straight leather jacket (a big trend this fall) or a short, playful one, and thigh-high boots.

Bubble Skirt

 In May 1987, Lady Diana broke fashion norms by strutting down the Cannes Croisette in a baby blue puffball dress. Fall 2024 puts a modern spin on this by favoring a shorter versionthe bubble skirt. The result is a pop, romantic, and voluminous look.

The Cape

As we’ve mentioned, fall 2024 is all about ultra-classic and classy vibes. To achieve a ladylike look straight out of the 1950s, invest in a cape. But since we’re in the 21st century, this piece has shed its bourgeois lines in favor of more experimental variations.

Cow Print After Leopard

Last but not least for fall 2024, the cow print trend was launched by it-girl and model Emily Ratajkowski.

Since then, this print has seen a 141% surge in online searches, according to Stylight. At Bottega Veneta, the cow print appears on handbags; at Stradivarius, on mules. But will it dethrone leopard print? No. Whether it’s Dior, Balenciaga, or Azzedine Alaïa, leopard remains at the height of trends, ever sensual, sexy, and confidence-boosting.

One thing is certain, when it comes to summer 2024 shoe trends, comfort is essential. Flat shoes triumph on the runways, from Miu Miu to Hermès, Valentino, and Alaïa. Ballet flats are making a comeback, while flip-flops, long relegated to beach days, are becoming chic. And we can’t forget  gladiator sandals, favorites of the 2007-2009 era, re-emerging at Rabanne. The clog: HardCrocs by Balenciaga

Among summer 2024 shoe trends, there are two schools of thought for clogs. One honors the ’70s, like at Coperni, Isabel Marant, and Etro, and the other is the urban futuristic version, like Balenciaga and JW Anderson. We lean towards the radicalism of this model, which admittedly goes over the top.

The summer 2024 swimsuit trends embrace diversity. While the one-piece is still a must, the two-piece comes in mini bikini style, bandeau, or timeless classic cuts with a return of the balconette. It’s a much-needed  pop of color in this gloomy world (yes, the writer of this article is already feeling her winter blues). It was spotted at the fashion shows of Ferragamo, Gucci, Prada, and Valentino (Italians really love red). You can dare to go for red in a blazer, long, or military style, like Gucci.
