A breathtaking course

Every year, a new course designer maps out the track. This edition features Grégory Bodo’s design for the main event: 17 feats, including a double and a triple obstacle, to be completed in under 79 seconds — a razor thin margin! . Riders inspect the course 30 minutes before the start. They walk it, count strides (three steps = one horse stride), and visualize it. There’s no room for improvisation. Believe it or not, many people are contemplating this very question — specially in places like ours, where extramarital sex is still criminalized under the Penal Code. In theory, that is. In practice, people from all walks of life find love—or intimacy—without legal ties.

This tension can feel like a mental burden, caught between personal freedoms and the weight of societal expectations, morality, and the law. It’s a particularly timely topic, as feminist movements and political parties push for the repeal of Article 470 in the context of reforms to Morocco’s family law and Penal Code.

Justice Minister Abdellatif Ouahbi has openly supported expanding individual freedoms and respecting privacy. He even criticized hotels requiring marriage certificates for couples booking rooms, calling the practice “illegal.” With so much in flux, we took a closer look at the changing perceptions—and occasional disappointments —surrounding one-night stands.

A taboo topic?

To start, the author of this article asked ChatGPT (her new BFF) to find recent studies or articles on “the end of the one-night stand.” The results? Nada. Zip. Which either makes this article groundbreaking—or completely off-track.

That said, searching terms like “hookup culture” or “casual relationships” online yields endless results. Sociologists and philosophers have long preferred to analyze monogamous, exclusive relationships, leaving ephemeral flings underexplored. Even in progressive societies, casual sex—though always present—remained taboo before the sexual liberation of the 1960s and 1970s.

Interestingly, men were often celebrated for their promiscuity, viewed as modern-day Don Juans, while women faced judgment for the same behavior. It was feminist and LGBTQIA+ movements that challenged the traditional (heterosexual marriage) mold, paving the way for more inclusive relationship norms. Unsurprisingly, these movements continue to face backlash from conservative factions, amplified by big tech platforms.

From may ’68 to millennials

The real shift began in the 21st century with the advent of the internet and dating apps. Societal changes, the #MeToo movement, and evolving sexual norms encouraged researchers to explore new forms of love and intimacy.

Sociologist Eva Illouz, for example, argues that dating apps have commodified emotional connections, while philosopher Richard Mèmeteau describes one-night stands as “enchanted parentheses.” A 2024 report by France’s National Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) found that while traditional couples remain the norm for those under 30, casual hookups play a significant role in their intimate lives.

Interestingly, men often label these encounters as “hookups,” while women and non-binary individuals refer to them as “friendships with benefits.” That said, despite the rise of toxic masculinity online, not all men view sex in reductive terms.

Conflicting pressures

Casual sex has become more normalized worldwide. For many, it’s a healthy, carefree experience—enjoyed without emotional entanglements or long-term expectations. Apps and social media make finding a casual encounter seemingly effortless.

But dig deeper, and it’s clear that one-night stands aren’t so straightforward. Articles like “Hookup Rules,” “How to Handle Falling for a One-Night Stand,” or “What Not To Do with a Casual Fling” point to the emotional complexities people face. Online forums even debate etiquette for these encounters, revealing just how fraught this supposedly carefree act can be.

Have we swapped one societal pressure for another? Short answer: yes. Simply put, it’s the Arab franchise of the dating show Love is Blind, which debuted in the U.S. in 2020 and has since been adapted in various countries (Sweden, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and more).

The concept? For ten days, about thirty single people in search of true love go through a series of speed dates in pods, where they can talk  without seeing each other. If there’s a good vibe and two personalities “match,” they can decide to get engaged—before meeting face-to-face for the first time.

You can already sense the entertaining, dramatic potential of this program. And honestly, this “behind the screen” style of dating show truly deserved an Arab version. Filmed in Dubai, Love is Blind, Habibi brings together singles from across the Arab world: Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

This setup is reminiscent of the French reality show Nice People, aired on TF1 in the early 2000s, which gathered contestants from all over Europe. Ah, love that nostalgia…

A Fun and refreshing angle

The main strength of Love is Blind, Habibi is this melting pot of people with a common background (language, religion) yet significant cultural differences (traditions, customs, mindset, history).

The show’s other strength lies in its open and decidedly modern angle. Sure, Love is Blind, Habibi is “halal,” so it’s much tamer than the Western versions (no sex, no alcohol), but it offers a less stereotypical view of the Arab world. The women are all independent working women. Most of them are in their thirties or older, single and confident.

They’re also quite feminist and know exactly what they want—autonomy for some, or a “provider” husband for others. The phrase “I don’t do coffee dates, walking dates, or last-minute dates” from contestant Nour El Haj (the most “princess” of them all) has already become iconic on social media.

Then there’s Hajar’s blunder, where she told her suitor she’d have one last fling before marriage—using a rather questionable culinary metaphor.

And we can’t deny it: “Arabs” have an unparalleled, somewhat old-fashioned sense of romance. Here, men are ultra-protective and ready to commit (seriously). They read you poetry and call you sweet names (light of my heart, dream of my nights—you get the idea). At a time when love seems to be considered a plague or worse, it’s heartwarming (yes, your writeris old-fashioned). Of course, being good “rajel,” the male contestants of Love is Blind, Habibi are also quite macho (and childish).

A parade of red flags

And this is where Shoelifer wants to dig in. Of all the female contestants on Love is Blind, Habibi, only two might come across as slightly superficial or immature—or simply not in love with their match. That’s just our opinion (to be fair to the guys). But on the men’s side, it’s a full house! Not one of them lacks problematic behavior or remarks. In other words, they’re (almost) all walking red flags — except  for Khatab, the Iraqi DJ, who seems like a genuinely nice, authentic, kind-hearted young man with no hidden agendas.

But  the others…?  The gold medal of   red flag has to be our dear Syrian dentist, Ammar. Yes, he’s handsome (very), successful, serious, and in love, but he’s an ultra-conservative macho. He outright forbade Karma (his match) from dancing, despite it being her lifelong passion. To our surprise (and delight), during a touching sequence Karma chose dancing over marriage.  For a moment, we thought Ammar, behind his smile, might flip the table.

But there’s a hitch. The couple wasn’t even married yet when Mohammed started pressuring Safa to change jobs and have kids. He didn’t want her traveling for work. But Safa loves her job. And on social media, the Love is Blind, Habibi contestant makes off-color jokes about his wife. Some find it funny; others see it as a form of harassment.

To get answers to our questions, we’ll have to wait until November 1st. That’s when Love is Blind, Habibi returns to Netflix for the grand finale! And if the trailer is any indication, things are going to heat up!

Panic mode! Our child comes home from school saying they’re being “bothered” during recess. Instinctively, we tell them not to let others walk all over them, to stand up for themselves, while bombarding them with phrases to reply with next time. But a child doesn’t grow strong just by listening to our words. They become strong by building self-confidence… and by trusting us, their parents.

Understanding bullying is the first step to tackling it. The widely accepted definition describes bullying as a form of psychological or physical violence that occurs over time, committed by one or more aggressors against someone who cannot defend themselves in that specific situation. A key aspect here is the repetitive nature of bullying. So, the first thing to do is to act quickly to prevent the situation from settling in and worsening.

There’s no ‘typical’ bullied child. 

Context also matters. Helping a child understand that they are not excluded everywhere can prevent self-esteem from taking a hit. For instance, being picked on at school doesn’t stop them from being well-integrated into their sports club. It’s the environment that’s at fault here: the bullied student is a victim of group dynamics, well-known to foster the rise of violence. Studies have shown that when taken individually, bullies aren’t necessarily aggressive people. In fact, they may even be friendly with their victims outside of school.

Being bullied does not mean your child is “different.” No one is born to be a target. This can help ease parents’ stress, a necessary step to support their child calmly. School bullying, whether among perpetrators or victims, can affect anyone without discrimination. This also explains why peers often remain silent when witnessing a student’s violent behavior, fearing they might become the next target.

Now that we understand this, what’s next? 

Here are four things to avoid if you find yourself in this situation.

Avoid… contacting the parents 

When our child suffers from bullying, we often want to call the bully’s parents. However, even if we manage to present the facts calmly (which isn’t always easy!), the other parent may feel attacked regarding their child’s behavior and react poorly, potentially making things worse. Secondly, dealing with this parent-to-parent robs the child of their own power – precisely what they need to break free from this spiral. Therapist Emmanuelle Piquet, who specializes in school bullying, is clear: the solution lies in empowering the child to stand up for themselves.

What happens at school should be handled at school. 

If you see that your child is unable to manage the situation alone, despite the tools you’ve provided (see below), contact their teacher or the school administration. As we’ve said, group dynamics foster violence. In a group, actions lose accountability, and people feel less responsible for what they do. This collective behavior needs to be addressed within the school context, where these group phenomena originate.

Avoid… downplaying the issue 

School bullying is not just “kids being kids.” Adults’ involvement is crucial for children to feel taken seriously. And for that to happen, they first need to be listened to, supported in their emotions, and validated in their feelings. Why? Because this will help them feel more confident, which is exactly what they’ll need to stand up for themselves. To be respected, one must feel worthy of respect.

Fighting against school bullying is a daily effort, encompassing all situations. At school, teachers should not allow one child to insult another in their presence, as this would implicitly endorse such behavior. Teachers can even inadvertently foster bullying behavior by lightly teasing a student in front of the class, thus designating a scapegoat and opening a door that other students may follow. Especially when we know that education is more about leading by example than words.

The same applies at home: our behavior should show our child that they are deserving of respect. Avoid using nicknames, stigmatizing weaknesses, or ridiculing them, even in a playful tone. Think about the way you interact as a family, how you speak to your child, and how siblings treat each other… A disparaging comment, even masked by laughter, remains a disparaging comment. A “just kidding” doesn’t erase the impact of a mockery. Has anyone ever burst out laughing when told they’re too fat/dumb/shy/slow, etc.?

Avoid… overreacting to the situation 

On the other hand, parents should be careful not to overreact to school bullying. Easier said than done, you might think. But it’s crucial to separate what belongs to the child and what belongs to the parent. Our children don’t need to carry our added stress. Otherwise, they may stop confiding in us, afraid of causing alarm. Instead of expressing our worry, we can start by commending their bravery in speaking up and thanking them for trusting us. This will allow us to help.

And since children learn by example – as we can’t say enough – letting our stress overwhelm us in front of them won’t help them handle their own. If we feel truly overwhelmed, it’s a chance to demonstrate calming techniques. By calmly acknowledging that we feel stressed and intend to address it, we can model positive behavior. For instance, we might drink a glass of water, step away for a few minutes to cool down, or do a breathing exercise. Then, we can return and let them know we are now fully available to listen with the attention they deserve.

Avoid… fighting fire with fire 

It’s challenging to admit, especially when we want to protect our child, but violence breeds violence. Telling them to respond with an eye for an eye won’t help. School bullies are typically people who exert power over others to cover up their insecurities. In this rough world, they’ve learned that the best defense is a good offense. So the more threatened they feel, the more they’ll lash out, creating a vicious cycle.

Generally, it’s better not to tell our child exactly what to say or do. They need to find their own words, which will reinforce their sense of self and ownership. Still, we can practice role-play with them, acting as the bully, so they can build confidence and come up with a response. To practice in a fun way, the “Takatakk à la récré” card game is perfect for learning not to let others walk all over them.

One strategy to consider is indifference. A confident “so what?” can be effective in shutting down bullies. Imagine a child saying, “Your glasses are so ugly!” So what? “They make you look stupid.” So what? And so on, until the bully has nothing left to say. Another approach is to use empathy, going along with the aggressor, as suggested by psychiatrist Philippe Aïm. If a bully makes fun of their outfit, the child could respond, “True, I don’t have as nice a sweater as you; mine’s a bit silly. You’re lucky to have cool clothes.” Then, they could ask, “Where did you get it?” The goal is to spark a non-violent exchange.

Ultimately, the key is to guide bullied children to find their inner strength. Hang in there, parents!

A few days ago, the Campus Fair wrapped up. Every year, it showcases schools and universities from Morocco and around the world. Other student fairs are also scheduled across the country, providing opportunities for you and your child tohelp them shape or finalize their plans for higher education.

In this new installment of our  education series, our editorial team delves into the specifics of the countries that currently attract the most young people. From Brussels to New York, vMadrid to Montreal, here’s what you need to know to approach studying abroad with peace of mind.

Spain: For Its Proximity

An increasing number of our young people are looking to the Iberian Peninsula for post-secondary studies. Just a few hours by car or plane, Spain is appealing  for its geographical location, climate, and the quality of education it offers. It’s a great place to live, and recent high school graduates quickly find their bearings. It’s also the top European country welcoming students through the Erasmus exchange program. Healthcare  (easier than in France, for example, and without so much fine print)), engineering, and business are some of the most appealing fields. And Spain’s degrees follow the LMD structure (Bachelor-Master-Doctorate), recognized worldwide.

The first step is to ensure your child meets the minimum language requirement, achieving at least a B1 certification in Spanish via the DELE (Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language). All universities—public, private, or Catholic—require it. Since there’s no Spanish equivalent of Parcoursup, your child will need to go through UNED (National University of Distance Education) to access the Selectividad. This exam is necessary for public school enrollment. Afterward, they must obtain a “credencial,” a document that grants legal access to all Spanish universities. This credential is based on grades from the last three years of high school. For most courses, an average of 5/10 is enough, but for medicine, a minimum of 8/10 is required.

Most private schools begin admissions in November/December and have different requirements. Check with the school to be ready in case they require an entrance exam. Once the application is accepted and fees are paid, your child will wait to receive their high school diploma to finalize registration. Notably, some universities, like the renowned Universidad Europea de Madrid, offer courses in English, in which case an additional language proficiency certificate, like TOEFL or Cambridge, is needed. Financially, there’s a big difference between public and private institutions. Expect a few hundred euros for public universities and upwards of €20,000 per year for private institutions.

Belgium: For Its Accessibility

Belgium has long been a popular choice for young Moroccan students, especially for architecture, engineering, or management studies. In recent years, however, their numbers have surged, particularly in health-related fields. The French-speaking part of Belgium is quite familiar to young Moroccans, and student life there is enjoyable, though somewhat expensive. The real advantage lies in access to higher education and the balance of quality and affordability.

Choosing Belgium for studying abroad requires early planning—at least six months ahead. The country is divided into three federal regions with Dutch, French, and German as official languages. First, your child must select the region they wish to study in. Proficiency in French and English is essential, though knowing German can be advantageous. Even without it, there are still six universities and 20 French-speaking colleges to choose from, such as the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Université Catholique de Louvain, and Université de Liège.

To apply, begin with an online or postal application to the chosen institution. Check the official university website for specific document requirements, which vary slightly. Admissions run from January to March, and a minimum average of 13/20 is needed for admission, though higher grades improve the chances of acceptance. After obtaining the high school diploma, the student must send their diploma and transcripts to the equivalence commission by July 15. This can be done by mail or in person.

Certain programs, like medicine or dentistry, require passing an entrance exam (ARES EXMD) and being within the 30% quota for foreign students. Once tuition fees are paid, final registration confirmation is issued. As for costs, expect an average of €4,000 per year, varying by the system chosen. Each year, the Belgian government sets annual fees for foreign students at public universities, currently around €2,500. Private school fees are typically lower than in France. Belgium also offers various scholarships for outstanding students, so don’t hesitate to apply if your child’s grades are high!

Canada and the USA: For Their Systems

The United States and Canada are the two favorite destinations for young high school graduates heading abroad. Admission to these countries, however, depends largely on two factors: tuition costs and academic performance.

Canada is by far the more accessible, known for being tolerant, progressive, and focused on well-being. .Canadian universities, both English- and French-speaking, provide high-quality education, especially in economics and new technologies.

Ideally, to apply, your child should select several study programs across different universities and submit their application. Most Canadian universities require proof of language proficiency and good grades. Admission deadlines vary, so check directly with the schools. Once the academic application is accepted, you’ll need to complete a financial dossier proving you can cover tuition, transport, healthcare, etc.

Fortunately, most Canadian provinces offer scholarships for international students. During the application process, contact the university’s financial aid office. Financially, expect around 40,000 CAD per year. For example, depending on the program, a year at McGill can cost between 23,000 and 56,000 CAD.

In the USA, the iconic campuses and vibrant student life contribute to the “American Dream.” American universities have enormous resources and profits, which are often reinvested in infrastructure and equipment. The U.S. education system emphasizes individual skills, with prestigious universities like Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Stanford. While tuition costs correspond to each university’s prestige, so does the selectivity of accepted applicants. Morocco and the U.S. collaborate on merit-based scholarships each year, a great motivation for top students.

University begins in August, so your child should complete all admission requirements by October/November. Language tests, motivation letters, and various exams or skills tests may be needed. Once accepted, as in Canada, prepare all administrative and financial documents proving your ability to support your child’s needs.

“I’m off to Tanaland.” By posting this video, Sali Matou, an 18-year-old French TikToker, did not expect to create a trend that would be taken up by over 18 million internet users (mostly women). But what exactly is Tanaland? Well, it’s an imaginary country, exclusively for women, where all women (and young girls) who are victims of misogyny, sexism, and slut-shaming on social media can find refuge. And where, of course, the borders are closed to our male counterparts.

Tana, a Sexist Insult

Stupid? Immature? Misandrist? Tanaland is primarily a humorous and sisterly response to the masculinism and sexism that abound on the Internet. In fact, many masculinist internet users have themselves launched the term “tana” to escape all forms of censorship. In slang, “tana” means “bitch,” likely derived from the lexicon of French rapper Niska or from the Spanish word “putana” (prostitute). Overall, it is used to insult and degrade all women who are deemed too free or “promiscuous.” Thus, overnight, thousands of influencers and young women found themselves labeled as “tana” under their posts by countless internet users, without it being considered an insult or harassment.

After being called “tana” repeatedly, TikTokers (followed by Instagrammers and Snapchaters) decided to create Tanaland. Inspired by the feminist film Barbie, Tanaland’s flag is candy pink, and it is sunny (and warm) all year round. Inclusive and welcoming, it embraces ALL women.

Tanaland and the N-Word: A Shared Struggle

Tanaland is just a concrete manifestation of a well-known concept in sociology. As Shoelifer likes to keep it simple, here’s a concrete example. In the United States, the N-word has long been a racist insult linked to the painful history of slavery, used by white people to humiliate and degrade Black individuals. Gradually, particularly through hip-hop culture, new generations of African Americans have reclaimed the N-word (exclusively among themselves) as a banner of their history, identity, and struggles.

Another example: hip-hop has long sexualized and disrespected women, especially African American women. This has partly led to the emergence of female rappers like Lil’ Kim (a pioneer of American female rap), Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and Megan Thee Stallion. These hyper-sexualized artists reclaim sexist norms  to better throw them back in the face of the world. Tanaland is exactly the same thing.

Certainly, women are not strictly an oppressed minority, but they still suffer from systemic inequalities and violence. Throughout her life, a woman (regardless of her lifestyle) will encounter at least one sexist insult (and much worse). In other words, we are all potentially a “tana,” so we might as well be supportive and laugh about it.

Behind the Phenomenon, a Sad Reality

Since its inception, Tanaland has generated many reactions. Initially, there was hatred and misunderstanding from many internet users. However, it also sparked a new liberation of speech and garnered significant media attention. The Tanaland phenomenon was even co-opted by a well-known health insurance company. Yes, capitalism has always loved rebranding itself at the expense of progressive struggles (but that’s another story).

It’s worth noting that Tanaland did not emerge at a random moment. Whether it’s the Pelicot trial in France, the P Diddy case in the United States, or even closer to home, the filmed sexual assault in Tangier (in a public space), all demonstrate the systemic scale of violence against women. Certainly, excluding men is not a solution. Moreover, many men have applied for a visa (LOL) to join Tanaland and escape misogynists. Never forget, together we go further!

After R. Kelly, it is now P. Diddy, another global star of the hip-hop and R&B scene, who is in the crosshairs of American justice. The rapper, producer, and businessman, born Sean Combs on November 4, 1969, has been pursued by federal justice in New York since September 16 for charges related to sex trafficking. P. Diddy

While awaiting his trial, P. Diddy (formerly Puff Daddy) has been placed in a federal prison in Brooklyn. In recent days, “the P. Diddy case” has taken on an expansive international dimension, to the point of being compared to the Jeffrey Epstein case, generating a #MeToo movement within the American hip-hop industry.

The Man Who Could Do No Wrong

So who is P. Diddy? Shoelifer mentioned this earlier. He is one of the most significant rappers and producers of the 20th century, with his peak occurring between the 1990s and 2010. In 1993, he founded Bad Boy Records in New York, which produced the greatest East Coast rappers, including the legendary Notorious B.I.G., pioneering Lil’ Kim, and also NAS and Jay Z.

At that time, P. Diddy was already a controversial figure and likely one of the instigators of the rivalry between Notorious B.I.G. (East Coast) and Tupac Shakur (West Coast), which led to both of their assassinations between 1996 and 1997, under still murky circumstances today. P. Diddy capitalized heavily on the sudden death of his “best friend” Notorious B.I.G. through storytelling, re-releases of albums, and compilations of previously unreleased tracks. This also inspired two of his biggest hits: “I’ll Be Missing You” (featuring Faith Evans, Notorious’s widow) and “Nasty Girl” (with a host of hip-hop stars).

In New York, he became a key player in the music industry, producing for artists such as Mary J. Blige, Usher, R. Kelly, Mariah Carey, TLC, Ice Cube, and Mario Winans (the list goes on). He even had a romance with Jennifer Lopez, whom he transformed into J-Lo, until their relationship abruptly ended when P. Diddy was implicated in a shooting and a corruption case in 1999.

Diddy embodies the bling-bling lifestyle and is a shrewd businessman, with his fortune estimated at $747 million by Forbes in 2019. He turns everything he touches into gold: the Sean John clothing line, Ciroc vodka brand… all while continuing to dominate the charts with global hits like “Last Night” featuring Keyshia Cole (2006) and “Coming Home” (2010).

He is also the one who launched Justin Bieber’s career. In short, P. Diddy is an influential man who has managed to cultivate an image of a respectable family man (with seven children) and a great philanthropist over time. He also represents African American success, politically engaged and close to the American Democrats, much like Beyoncé.

Cassie and the Domino Effect

But how did the aura and status of this seemingly untouchable man shatter? To understand this, we must go back to November 16, 2023. On that day, model and singer Cassandra Ventura (known as Cassie), who was P. Diddy’s partner for 13 years (from 2005 to 2018), filed a lawsuit against him for “rape,” “violence,” and “sex trafficking.”

Cassie informed authorities that P. Diddy had allegedly forced her for several years to have sex with sex workers, filmed and under chemical submission (alcohol, drugs…). She claims to have been a victim of domestic violence and rape committed by P. Diddy in 2018, the year of their separation. She also revealed the existence of Freak Offs, orgy parties organized by P. Diddy, who is well known for his “party spirit” and “white parties.”

However, on November 17, just twenty-four hours after her hearing, Cassie withdrew her lawsuit following a confidential financial agreement with the accused. In other words, P. Diddy bought her silence. Nevertheless, events began to unfold.

On November 23, 2023, the day the Adult Survivor Act (a New York law allowing victims of sexual violence to file lawsuits for time-barred incidents) closed, two separate lawsuits were filed against P. Diddy for incidents dating back to the 1990s. The first was from Liza Gardner, who claims she was raped and assaulted at the age of 16 by the producer and singer Aaron Hall. The second plaintiff, Joie Dickerson-Neal, reported being drugged without her knowledge before being sexually assaulted and filmed.

On December 2, 2023, another woman filed a lawsuit against P. Diddy under anonymity. According to her, the musician and two accomplices allegedly kidnapped her in 2003 when she was only 17 years old, before drugging and abusing her in P. Diddy’s recording studio.

On February 2, 2024, Rodney Lil’ Rod (P. Diddy’s producer on the album Love) accused the rapper of drugging, assaulting, and filming him. Rodney even claims to have hundreds of hours of recordings of parties involving sexual exploitation (also involving minors) and chemical submission. In other words, he describes an unprecedented and established predation system. He also implicates two label executives, Lucian Grainge (Universal Music) and Ethiopia Habtemariam (Motortown).

Between May and September 2024, five more lawsuits were filed against P. Diddy. All describe incidents of sexual assault, rape, or abuse.

Federal Intervention and Shocking Revelations from CNN

In March 2024, the case took a new turn. On March 25, investigators from the Department of Homeland Security (the Feds) dramatically searched two of P. Diddy’s residences in Los Angeles and Miami.

Agents seized a thousand bottles of “lubricant” (actually baby sweet almond oil) and other evidence confirming the existence of sexual orgies (the famous Freak Offs). Investigators reportedly also found numerous sex tapes, but no information has leaked since. Meanwhile, P. Diddy denies all accusations against him. He even took the time to post a video on his Instagram account, suggesting that he is now alone against everyone.

In May, a new incriminating piece of evidence emerged against the “star.” CNN aired an unbearably violent clip recorded in 2016 by a hotel surveillance camera, showing P. Diddy hitting and dragging his then-girlfriend, Cassie, by the hair. In one video, he acknowledges the facts and calls his behavior “inexcusable.” He then committed to going to New York to cooperate with justice and “answer all questions.”

But nothing can close the Pandora’s box. Lawsuits against him continue to accumulate. On September 16, P. Diddy was arrested and placed in pretrial detention in New York. Following this, Tony Buzbee, the plaintiffs’ attorney, opened a hotline. A total of 3,285 people called, often anonymously, claiming to be victims or witnesses of sexual assault committed by P. Diddy. This led to the identification of 120 new victims, including 25 minors at the time of the incidents. Nearly a hundred lawsuits are likely to stand in court. This is simply unprecedented.

The federal prosecutor’s office in Manhattan currently accuses the rapper of sex trafficking and extortion. The indictment states that P. Diddy “abused, threatened, and coerced women to satisfy his sexual desires, protect his reputation, and conceal his actions for decades.”

What About the Tip of the Iceberg?

That summarizes the facts (and only the facts) of the P. Diddy case. This case has not yet revealed all its secrets and is expected to lead to a trial (hoping the accused remains alive, cf. Jeffrey Epstein). Initially, it raises numerous questions about the violence and toxicity of industries related to “entertainment.” Whether in music (P. Diddy, but also R. Kelly, Michael Jackson, or Britney Spears), film (Harvey Weinstein, Judith Godrèche’s story, Gérard Depardieu), or fashion (the Élite affair). It also touches on the impunity of powerful men, the extent of systemic sexual violence, and the consideration of women’s and minors’ voices.

But the P.Diddy case goes even further. This is why the media and public opinion describe it as “tentacled” and compare it to that of Jeffrey Epstein. The latter also set up a system of sexual predation and, according to his little “black book,” had at least 200 contacts of very influential personalities, more or less close to him, ranging from Bill Clinton to Rihanna. For the justice system, the whole question has been whether Epstein was a sexual predator with a few accomplices or if it was a vast network organized by powerful people. The same question arises for P.Diddy, which inevitably feeds the wildest conspiracy theories.

First of all, many stars have collaborated or mingled with P.Diddy, notably during his Freak Offs. Several personalities are thus mentioned in the case, seemingly against their will: Prince Harry, Barack Obama, Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith, and Beyoncé, for example. Finally, as with every scandal of this nature, internet users have taken on the role of investigators, scrutinizing every video, photo, interview, or past event in light of current events.

Thus, we find ourselves with theories suggesting that Tupac and Aaliyah (already a victim of R.Kelly) were actually killed by P.Diddy (in Tupac’s case, that’s up for debate LOL). Or that Justin Bieber’s depression and addictions prove he was assaulted by the producer. Internet users are digging up, for example, footage where Justin Bieber seems genuinely uncomfortable in the presence of P.Diddy. Another rumor (spread on TikTok) also reports a list provided by P.Diddy to the FBI mentioning stars complicit in these crimes. Again, this fake news has been denied by lawyer Tony Buzbee.

The stars themselves fuel acute conspiracy thinking. This is particularly the case with rapper 50 Cent, who has been denouncing P.Diddy for years and is now targeting Jay Z, who he claims will be the next to fall.

On September 6, Amazon removed from its site the fake memoirs of P.Diddy’s late ex-wife, Kim Porter, who died in November 2018. Titled Kim’s Lost Words, the book written by a fraudster became a bestseller in a few days.
