AZYAR, THE MOROCCAN LODGE WHERE TIME STANDS STILL.

AZYAR, THE MOROCCAN LODGE WHERE TIME STANDS STILL.

Looking for a complete escape without venturing too far? We have the perfect plan for you! Azyar Ocean is a lodge in Morocco where life follows the rhythm of the tides and the sun, nestled within the cliffs of Cap Beddouza. We must admit, it was hard for us to leave this paradise!

This summer, you might have decided to (re)discover the beauty of Morocco. We suggest you pack your bags and head to Safi. After passing Oualidia, stop just before Cap Beddouza: there, behind an unassuming large gate, you’ll find the entrance to Azyar Ocean Lodge. The Atlantic Ocean stretches endlessly before you… Conceived by Bouchaïb Harmouzi, a specialist in unique getaways and owner of Azalaï Life Experience along with its three establishments, this lodge in Morocco is sure to charm you “sustainably.” Here, luxury is about taking time for yourself while respecting the environment.

Minimal environmental impact…

Everything at Azyar is designed with an ecological standard in mind. The lodge is sculpted into the cliffs to blend seamlessly into the landscape without marring  the coastline. The accommodations are built on stilts to minimize the use of concrete. The garden, designed by Salma Essadaoui, favors native, water-efficient plants over grass.

The culinary experience will also satisfy your green palate. As half-board guests, you’ll enjoy fresh, local produce. Azyar prioritizes short supply chains, which is perfect since the region is known for its agricultural richness. The menu also varies depending on the catch of the day. From the hook to your plate, it doesn’t get more direct! The vibrant dishes are also the work of the famous chef Baya, whom Azyar enlisted to enhance its menu.

Bouchaïb Harmouzi is committed to ecology as a new horizon of demand: “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children,” he remarks playfully, quoting Saint-Exupéry. Aware of the efforts required in the hospitality industry, the Franco-Moroccan entrepreneur knows that the clientele of a lodge in Morocco is increasingly sensitive to climate issues. And if they aren’t, he intends to convince them.

Simplicity as the ultimate luxury

Forget the marble palaces and gilded moldings that luxury hotels usually offer. If your idea of a vacation involves bling, you’ll have to reconsider. At Azyar, the focus is on minimalism and comfort. The decor, curated by Ludovic Petit, features organic materials and natural tones, with a generous use of ecru fabrics, raffia ornaments, and driftwood.

With only around ten accommodations, Azyar goes against the grain of mass tourism, offering an intimate setting where you can unwind and unplug. Personally, we can’t get enough of the infinity pool overlooking the vast Atlantic Ocean. In this idyllic setting, yogis will have no trouble finding their prana! Certified Hatha yoga sessions are available on request.

Here, well-being is taken seriously. Azyar has just opened a gym, ensuring that fitness enthusiasts won’t miss their regular routines. There’s also a football field and a beach volleyball court for guests to enjoy. And if you have an adventurous spirit, don’t hesitate to borrow one of the lodge’s bikes for a ride. The tomato fields below are stunning.

Wi-Fi? In very small doses!

But what might surprise you most about this Moroccan lodge is its radical commitment to unplugging.  At Azyar, Wi-Fi is used sparingly. It’s available in the common area, but the rooms are Wi-Fi-free. Don’t worry, though! The 4G signal is strong. However, we encourage you to embrace the experience. Speaking personally, we can tell you that getting away from screens is good for the soul! You might find yourself enjoying a book on the terrace or in the common room, where there are also board games. And yes, there’s no TV here either, and we’re perfectly fine with that. If this experience appeals to you, be sure to book in advance: spots are limited… and precious.
