For several years now, we’ve heard about holistic beauty. This approach encompasses not only external aesthetics but also a person’s mental, emotional, environmental, and spiritual well-being. While we often hear “you are what you eat,” lifestyle, skincare routines, psychological balance, and the quality of one’s environment are equally important. To her, Innercare embodies the ambition of conscious beauty—modern and body-connected. Nouhayla holds a master’s in digital marketing (ISG Paris) and an MBA in Beauty & Cosmetics (EFAP). Daughter of Ilham Foukala, co‑founder of Esthécare centers, beautycare is in her DNA. While today’s beauty landscape champions self-acceptance and natural aesthetics, aesthetic medicine is far from fading into obscurity. According to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), the total number of surgical and non-surgical procedures increased by 3.4% in 2023, reaching 34.9 million worldwide. Among the most popular treatments are Botox and hyaluronic acid injections, laser hair removal, non-surgical skin tightening, and non-invasive fat reduction.

Facial rejuvenation remains a top priority, but the trend is shifting towards more natural-looking enhancements, steering away from overly frozen results. The focus is now on gentler, less invasive methods. This year, three procedures, in particular, are generating buzz: salmon sperm injections, Korean silk thread lifts, and exosome therapy.

Salmon sperm injections

Celebrity-approved and social media’s latest obsession, salmon sperm injections are making waves in the beauty world. Though this Korean technique has existed since 2015, it recently made a comeback thanks to Jennifer Aniston and Kim Kardashian. In July, the reality star revealed on her show that she had tried the treatment. Then, in October 2024, Aniston confirmed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that she, too, had undergone the procedure—both praising its anti-aging effects.

Salmon sperm is said to be rich in polynucleotides, small fragments of DNA and RNA. “When injected into the skin, they stimulate the production of new blood vessels, collagen, and keratinocytes (which make up 90% of the epidermis), promoting cellular regeneration,” explains Dr. Richard Westreich, a New York-based plastic surgeon, in an interview with The Guardian. Of course, it’s not raw sperm but purified extracts. The result? Plumper, more hydrated, and visibly healthier skin.

On paper, it sounds like the ultimate anti-aging solution. However, scientific studies on its efficacy are mixed. While some report “significant improvements in skin elasticity and hydration,” others find the benefits minimal, if not negligible. As for side effects, opinions are divided. Some experts claim the treatment is safe when administered by professionals, while others report redness, bruising, or post-injection swelling.

Beyond its questionable effectiveness, this method raises environmental and ethical concerns. With salmon already at risk due to overfishing, PETA has denounced the extraction process as extremely painful for the fish. Bottom line? This trend is a hard pass.

Korean Silk Thread Lift

As the name suggests, this aesthetic treatment also hails from Korea. But unlike traditional lifts, it smooths wrinkles and signs of aging without needles. Known as the “hiko” lift, it involves infusing silk protein threads, soaked in a serum containing hyaluronic acid and marine collagen, into facial creases. The skin absorbs them instantly, delivering an immediate tightening effect.

This revolutionary approach offers several advantages. It’s non-invasive, completely painless, free from side effects, and suitable for all skin types. Silk proteins are natural and biocompatible with the epidermis.

The real wow factor? Results are visible instantly—wrinkles are filled, and skin appears firmer. Even better, just one session per year is enough to maintain long-lasting youthful effects. Still skeptical? A quick search for before-and-after photos on social media speaks for itself. While this treatment is still relatively rare in Morocco, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes widely available in aesthetic clinics. In France, several beauty institutes already offer the hiko lift.

Exosome Therapy

Here’s another game-changing innovation—one that doesn’t involve injections. Meet exosome therapy. While still relatively unknown in France and Morocco, this treatment is booming in South Korea and the U.S., with a certain celebrity leading the charge… Yes, Kim Kardashian (again!). Exosomes are naturally occurring components in the body that facilitate cellular communication.

These nano-vesicles (tiny sacs) transport proteins, lipids, growth factors, minerals, and vitamins, acting as messengers that promote cellular renewal. However, as we age, the number of healthy cells declines, and their communication weakens.

Exosome therapy involves applying these nano-vesicles directly to the skin to kickstart cellular regeneration. The practitioner then uses microneedling to create micro-channels, allowing the exosome-rich serum to penetrate deeply. This stimulates collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production while strengthening the skin barrier.

The results? Tightened pores, smoothed wrinkles, a more radiant complexion, faded scars, and firmer skin. Unlike Botox, exosomes work on the entire skin surface for a holistic anti-aging effect. This method can also be used on the scalp to boost hair growth.

For lasting results, three to five sessions spaced 15 days apart are recommended, with maintenance every six months. Derived from plants, exosomes are suitable for all skin types and have no contraindications. The only potential side effect? Mild redness post-treatment. They can even be used preventatively from the age of 30. Notably, Exomide-brand exosomes have recently entered the Moroccan market and are now available through select aesthetic doctors and dermatologists.

Not ready to take the plunge? You can start with at-home skincare. Brands like Skin Diligent and Dr. Barbara Sturm now offer serums and creams enriched with plant-based exosomes—though their concentrations are significantly lower than in professional treatments.

Bonus: The Notox Trend

For those reluctant to dive into aesthetic medicine, there’s another anti-aging trend making waves: Notox—a blend of “no” and “Botox.” This approach relies on skincare and techniques that naturally stimulate cellular regeneration. Think: hyaluronic acid-, peptide-, vitamin C-, and bakuchiol-enriched cosmetics, LED light therapy, and a daily facial massage routine. Sometimes, the simplest solutions are the most effective.

Introduced for the first time in cosmetics in 2007 under the brand name Sytenol A, bakuchiol has quickly become a trendy ingredient. This natural active substance, extracted from a medicinal plant, offers numerous benefits. It provides anti-aging, antioxidant, and anti-blemish effects, all without side effects. This makes it a strong competitor to retinol, which is currently the go-to in anti-wrinkle treatments.

As a reminder, retinol is a form of retinoids, which are derivatives of vitamin A. In the same family, we find tretinoin, which we discussed recently. All these active ingredients are known for their potency and effectiveness, but they can also be very irritating. They are not suitable for everyone. This is where bakuchiol shines. Very gentle, it is better tolerated by sensitive skin. Does this mean it could replace retinol? Not so fast… Yasmine Slimani, a dermatologist in Casablanca, has more to say.

What is Bakuchiol?

Originating from India and Sri Lanka, bakuchiol is an active substance extracted from the leaves and seeds of the Psoralea corylifolia plant, whose Sanskrit name is “bakuchi.” Used for hundreds of years in traditional Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, bakuchiol has only recently been incorporated into cosmetics. Completely natural, it is sometimes referred to as “phyto-retinol” or “green retinol.” And for good reason, as it acts in the same way as the latter. “Bakuchiol not only offers the same benefits as retinol, but it also acts similarly on the cell’s DNA,” explains Yasmine Slimani.

Like retinol, bakuchiol is mainly used for its anti-aging benefits. By stimulating collagen synthesis and cellular turnover, it reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines while improving skin elasticity and firmness. But this natural active ingredient is also antioxidant (it helps the skin neutralize free radicals), anti-blemish (it purifies acne-prone skin and prevents the appearance of blackheads), and anti-spot (it blocks tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for hyperpigmentation).

Is it really effective?

“It’s a bit of a jack-of-all-trades,” admits the dermatologist. “However, there are always more effective options. Its effects are minimal compared to other active ingredients. Therefore, it’s not something I would recommend as a priority unless someone can’t tolerate anything else. In that case, it has potential,” she adds. This is indeed its main advantage: bakuchiol is suitable for all skin types, including sensitive ones. “Retinol is irritating, so we can’t prescribe it to everyone. If someone suffers from rosacea, for instance, we wouldn’t even consider it. This is when we start looking for alternatives like niacinamide, bakuchiol, etc.,” the professional clarifies.

Yasmine Slimani also wants to alert us to the lack of research on this topic. “There are hardly any well-founded studies on bakuchiol that prove its efficacy and safety. Therefore, I prefer not to prescribe it to a pregnant or breastfeeding woman, for example.”

How to use It?

So it is clear:  bakuchiol is not the miracle anti-aging solution. Other, more potent active ingredients are more effective. In addition to retinol, we also think of vitamin C, which offers better antioxidant effects. However, this natural ingredient has potential  for those who want to use gentle anti-wrinkle treatments. One can opt for a serum or a moisturizing cream to incorporate into their daily routine.

“Like retinol, the effects of bakuchiol will only be visible after several weeks of use. It must be used in the long term,” explains Dr. Slimani. Another advantage of bakuchiol is that it is not photosensitizing. Therefore, it can be applied in the morning or evening. “Some people prescribe it twice a day, but I prefer not to,” specifies the dermatologist.

The fact that bakuchiol is not irritating also allows it to be combined with other active ingredients. Unlike retinol, it will not cause any interaction issues. “If you want to treat an oily skin problem, you can use it with salicylic acid and niacinamide. To add some glow, you can combine it with glycolic acid or anything AHA. Finally, there are many anti-wrinkle treatments that combine bakuchiol with retinol, where the latter is less concentrated to reduce its irritating effects,” explains Yasmine Slimani.

In Morocco, bakuchiol is not yet very well known, but there are some products,  such as the concentrated serum from Aroma Zone, the sheet mask from Some By Mi, or the Probio-Cica eye cream from Madagascar Centella. In Europe, there are several anti-wrinkle and anti-blemish treatments enriched with bakuchiol. You can find them at Sephora, Paula’s Choice, Dr.Jart+, Typology, The Inkey List, as well as in Korean cosmetics.

The most elegant: Barénia Eau de Parfum by Hermès
In the world of 2024 beauty launches, perfumery is not lagging behind. Hermès, in particular, is unveiling Barénia this September, a refined feminine cyprus  fragrance. It’s been several years since the brand launched a completely new olfactory creation, but it was worth the wait. Inspired by Barénia leather, an iconic material from Hermès, this composition by perfumer Christine Nagel celebrates cyprus,  one of the most beautiful ingredients  in perfumery. new beauty releases 

The fragrance opens with a citrus note brought by bergamot and miracle berry, a small red fruit from Ghana. The most eclectic: Les Éternels collection by Balmain Beauté

Balmain Beauté has just launched its first collection of mixed niche perfumes this September. Entitled “Les Éternels,” it comprises eight references divided into four different olfactory families: musks, ambers, florals, and woods, each representing a distinct facet of the brand’s universe. This project has been a long time coming for Olivier Rousteing, Balmain’s artistic director, who has been working on it for two years. To prolong the summer, we recommend Vent Vert, a reinterpretation of the classic created by Pierre Balmain in 1947. Inspired by nature, this eau de parfum combines the zesty freshness of green mandarin with a sensual blooming jasmine. Basil, mint, and fig leaf notes enhance the fragrance’s green aspect, while the base settles into a woody finish, accented with a touch of blackcurrant.

Sel d’Ambre pays tribute to Africa and the shimmering nights of the desert with a radiant, sensual amber paired with the mineral and salty oceanic notes of gray amber.  We love the spicy, warm character of this fragrance, perfect as the weather cools. Celine launches its first cosmetics line

Earlier this year, luxury fashion brand Celine announced the upcoming launch of its makeup line. The first product, a lipstick from the “Rouge Celine” collection, debuted in early September at the brand’s store on Rue Saint-Honoré. Named “Triomphe,” in reference to Celine’s original logo, this bold red lipstick is encased in a cylindrical gold case adorned with the signature monogram.

In terms of formulation, it is composed of 89% natural ingredients, resulting in a soft and comfortable texture that coats the lips in vibrant color. A special mention goes to its scent, a blend of rose and rice powder, reminiscent of the house’s entire designer parfumerie collection. Available in mid-October on celine.com, the collection includes 15 different shades. The beauty line is expected to expand over time with products for the eyes (mascara, pencils, eyeliner), face (loose powders, blush), and nails. We can’t wait!

There’s no need to remind you of the benefits of natural ingredients when it comes to skincare and cosmetics. In fact, more and more major brands are revising the compositions of their products  to make them as natural as possible. But sometimes it’s much easier to grab ingredients from our own kitchen cabinets. If you’re used to making your own body, hair, and face care products, you might not have yet ventured into natural cosmetics for children. It’s worth noting that their delicate skin requires a bit of extra caution.

Always prioritize high-quality products, preferably organic. Use well-washed or even sterilized equipment. Lastly, be careful with ingredients that could cause skin reactions, such as essential oils. As a reminder, essential oils should not be used on children under 3 years old. For older children, as well as adults, it’s always a good idea to place a drop of essential oil on the inner elbow before incorporating it into a recipe to ensure there’s no risk of an allergic reaction. Once these basic guidelines are clear, you can get into the kitchen and test out different recipes with your kids—a great way to spend time together before school starts. To help your kids sleep at night: A calming pillow spray

Difficulty falling asleep, or waking up in the middle of the night? Sleep issues affect nearly one in three children under 6 years old. To help them have peaceful nights and get back into a school routine more easily, here’s a soothing pillow spray that promotes relaxation at bedtime.

Ingredients:

• 75 ml orange blossom or Roman chamomile infusion 
• 5 ml red mandarin or sweet orange essential oil
• 12 drops bitter orange seeds  or bergamot essential oil

Recipe: In a bowl, mix the essential oils. Add the infusion and mix again. Transfer the preparation into a glass spray bottle. Shake before each use. Spray the mist on sheets and curtains about 15 minutes before bedtime. Store this product away from light and heat for up to three to six months.

To untangle hair: A gentle detangling spray

If your child runs at the sight of a comb and every hair-brushing session ends in tears, this recipe will be a lifesaver. The best part? It’s super easy and quick to make.

Ingredients:

• 100 ml water
• 1 tablespoon oats
• A few drops of vegetable oil (coconut, avocado, or castor)

Recipe: In a bowl, soak the oats in water overnight. The next day, strain the oats, keep the water, and add the vegetable oil. Pour the liquid into a container. The detangler is applied to wet hair after shampooing and doesn’t need to be rinsed out. Note that this natural product only lasts for up to three days in the refrigerator.

To heal wounds: A soothing balm

For bike accidents or skinned knees on the playground,  it’s best to be prepared. This natural balm has anti-inflammatory, disinfectant, antibacterial, and healing properties. However, it’s recommended to wait two to three days after the injury (once healing has begun) before applying it.

Ingredients:

• 23 grams coconut oil
• 5 grams aloe vera gel
• 5 drops tea tree essential oil
• 5 drops true lavender essential oil
• 3 drops Italian helichrysum essential oil

Recipe: After softening the coconut oil in a bain-marie, pour it into a bowl. Add the aloe vera and blend the two ingredients together. Once cooled, add the essential oils. Mix and transfer into a sterilized 30 ml container. This balm can be stored for up to three months, away from heat and light.

For teens: An anti-acne serum

Hormonal changes during puberty lead to acne for nearly 80% of teenagers—a real annoyance during such a sensitive time. However, it’s possible to reduce breakouts naturally. And beware of misinformation!  Instead of harsh products that damage the skin, it’s better to use natural cosmetics made from specific vegetable oils.

Ingredients:

• 20 ml jojoba oil
• 10 ml black cumin oil
• 10 drops manuka essential oil

This natural recipe will help you face the new school year with peace of mind. Every September, lice return to classrooms. Instead of waiting until everyone’s scratching their heads, prevent infestations with this 100% natural spray.

Ingredients:

• 45 ml lavender infusion  (or witch hazel)
• 40 drops true lavender or lavandin essential oil
• 17 drops grapefruit seed extract

Recipe: In a bowl, mix the essential oil. Add the lavender hydrosol and stir. Then add the grapefruit seed extract and mix again. Transfer the preparation into a 50 ml tinted glass container for better preservation. Apply directly to hair and clothing before school. This product can be kept for up to three months, stored away from light and heat.

You’re finally on vacation, and you’re dreaming of one thing: spending your days lounging on the beach or by the pool. But you already know that UV rays are harmful to your skin’s health. Prolonged sun exposure is therefore dangerous, especially if you don’t protect yourself properly! To minimize the damage, it’s essential to follow these golden rules. Take a look.

1 – SPF, IP, FPS: these acronyms mean the same thing. 

True. SPF stands for Sunburn Protection Factor. “Facteur de Protection Solaire” (FPS) and “Indice de Protection” (IP) are synonyms in French. These acronyms all refer to an index that measures the level of protection provided by a sunscreen product and indicates how long you can be exposed to the sun before getting sunburned. The higher the index, the greater the photoprotection offered by the product. Values range from 6 (low protection) to 50+ (very high protection). For example, if you get sunburned after 10 minutes without sun protection, a product with an SPF 6 will provide protection for 60 minutes (6 x 10 minutes).

2 – Only UVB rays that cause sunburn are harmful. 

False. UVA rays were long considered harmless, but it’s now acknowledged that 75% of them can degrade elastin and collagen, damage DNA, and contribute to the development of skin cancer. UVA rays are also painless, present year-round, and can penetrate the skin deeply. Nowadays, laboratories include anti-UVA filters in sunscreen formulas. A ratio of 1 to 3 between anti-UVB and anti-UVA protection is recommended. For example, a sunscreen with SPF 30 should have an anti-UVA protection factor of 10.

3 – Infrared rays (IR) are cool…

 True and false. Infrared radiation is felt as heat, which can serve as a warning signal: “Get out of the sun!”  The danger of infrared rays lies in their ability to penetrate the skin deeply, cause DNA damage, accelerate photoaging, and impair cell function. Currently, there’s no molecule capable of absorbing infrared radiation. In the meantime, laboratories include reflectors in their formulas to mitigate this radiation, acting as a sort of shield that blocks infrared rays on the skin’s surface.

4 – Prolonged sun exposure requires repeated application of sunscreen. 

True. Sunscreen should be reapplied every two hours, after each swim, when you’ve sweated, or after using a beach towel. The product should be applied to dry skin in sufficient quantities: one teaspoon for the face and 2 to 3 tablespoons for the body, whether you’re lounging under an umbrella or on a cloudy day.

5 – I have very dark skin. I can tan safely using a product with SPF 15. 

False. During prolonged sun exposure (beach, pool, hiking, etc.), you should never go below SPF 15 to 25 for dark skin, SPF 30 for brown skin,  and SPF 50 to 50+ for fair skin. The index can be lowered as the skin gets used to the sun and gradually tans.

6 – I use a cream with SPF 50+. I can safely nap in the sun after lunch around 1 PM. 

False. The most dangerous time in terms of sun intensity is between noon and 4 PM (GMT). It’s important to remember that even with generous sunscreen application, your skin is still at risk of burning in strong sunlight. This risk is even higher for fair skin.

7 – For daily activities in the city, wearing sunscreen with SPF 50+ is necessary. 

False. For daily activities where sun exposure is brief (driving in the city, walking short distances, a quick coffee on a terrace, etc.), a day cream or foundation is sufficient if it contains sunscreen (SPF 15).

8 – To protect your face during sun exposure, cream-based products are the most effective. 

False. Whether it’s oil, cream, mist, or foundation, the protection is the same. The choice of sunscreen should be based on your phototype (skin’s sensitivity to UV) and skin type. For instance, fair skin (moderately  to very oily) should opt for a high-protection fluid texture (SPF 50+) that protects while mattifying. In contrast, dry or dehydrated skin will need a more comfortable texture, such as a cream. The same applies to the body!

9 – I’m a man. I have tough skin. I don’t need to protect my face. 

False. Obviously. While men’s skin is thicker, it’s still sensitive to UVA, UVB, and other IR radiation. Sunscreen products are increasingly sophisticated, with an imperceptible finish, making them easier for men to use.

 Collagen: everyone knows about it. But while we were more accustomed to finding it in the composition of our anti-wrinkle creams and serums, it is now available in ingestible forms. In liquid form, powder to dilute, capsules, or chewable candies, collagen is everywhere! This is true to such an extent that  there are even shops dedicated entirely to this trend, such as the 48 Collagen Café in Paris.

Its promises? Slowing down the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, hydrating and firming the skin, strengthening hair fibers and nails, improving joint comfort, or even reducing certain pains. The success is such that the global collagen market, valued at nearly $5.1 billion in 2023, is expected to reach $7.4 billion by 2030 according to a study conducted by MarketsandMarkets.

 However, not all specialists are convinced of the effectiveness of this supplement, pointing out the lack of scientific studies conducted on this subject. Moreover, it is possible to stimulate the natural production of collagen by adopting simple habits.

What is collagen?

Let’s start with a little reminder. Present  at over 30%, collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body. It is found notably in bones, cartilage, teeth, skin, tendons and ligaments, muscles, as well as blood vessels. Collagen is responsible for tissue cohesion. It plays an important role in the structural support of the body, prevents joint wear and tear, ensures the strength of blood vessels, skin firmness and elasticity, as well as wound healing. It is therefore essential.

Unfortunately, from the age of 25, the synthesis of collagen by our body decreases by about 1.5% per year. This results in a progressive decrease in skin elasticity and radiance, the appearance of fine lines, and some joint pain. Although this is a natural aging process, it can be accelerated by daily aggressions such as UV rays, pollution, poor lifestyle habits, smoking, and alcohol. Therefore, in an attempt to slow down the degradation of collagen and firm up tissues as much as possible, cosmetic brands are increasingly incorporating this protein into their products.

The dietary supplement trend

While collagen-enriched cosmetics have been on the market for several years, the consumption of dietary supplements is quite recent. This trend is based on the idea that we are what we eat. Thus, ingesting collagen, in addition to applying it to the skin, would offer better results. Many celebrities are also hooked on it. Jennifer Aniston, for example, consumes it daily, in the form of powder diluted in her favorite drinks.

The success is such that more and more brands are developing their own products (such as Atelier Nubio, D-Lab Nutricosmetics, Solgar, Vital Proteins, Aime, and more). Moreover, a study by the Mordor Intelligence agency estimates that sales of collagen-based dietary supplements are expected to reach $8.59 billion by 2029 (compared to $5.94 billion in 2024). Faced with this enthusiasm, one is tempted to think that customers are experiencing real benefits since they are increasingly consuming them.

 Proven results?

Some specialists remain cautious about the actual benefits of these products. They notably denounce the lack of conclusive results from studies and the fact that many of them are funded by the cosmetic industry. Moreover, the evidence of collagen’s effectiveness in these various reports has not been deemed sufficient by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), which has refused to authorize the listing of its supposed many benefits. 

As a result, dietary supplements cannot claim to contribute to maintaining good joint health, help preserve skin firmness and elasticity, or support joint regeneration. Nevertheless, all experts agree that occasionally following a collagen regimen is not harmful to health. The only reported side effects are rare intestinal disorders. Some of them even think that this supplement has potential  if the right product is chosen. Indeed, not all brands are equal.

What should you pay attention to?

First, make sure that the dietary supplement contains at least 10g of collagen per daily dose. It should also be hydrolyzed to be effective. This indicates that it has been broken down into small molecules, which are more easily absorbed by the body. However, it is impossible to predict where the body will use these amino acids. Even if the supplement promises to act on signs of aging on the face, the body will use the supplement  where it needs it most.

Keep in mind that collagen is an animal protein. It is found in bone broth, meat, fish, and egg whites. So, if the supplement claims to have a 100% plant-based collagen origin, know that this is not possible.

Finally, like any dietary supplement, collagen supplements can only be effective if taken as part of a healthy lifestyle. Excessive consumption of sugar, alcohol, and tobacco is responsible for premature aging of the skin and the body. Moreover, the more toxins there are in the body, the less the intestinal mucosa will be able to absorb good things, including collagen. Therefore, aim for a balanced diet (favoring proteins like meat, chicken, and eggs, naturally rich in collagen), engage in regular physical activity, and protect yourself from UV rays daily. 

According to specialists, these good habits are enough to stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen. But there’s nothing stopping you from occasionally taking dietary supplements if you wish. However, be careful not to consume them if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney or liver problems. So, miracle product or just marketing hype? We’ll let you make up your own mind.
